We are currently seeking a Senior Benefits Compliance Consultant. This position is located in Columbus, OH.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Assists in the development and implementation of compliance strategies in the administration of Battelle’s qualified and nonqualified employee benefit plans. Provides input into the development of benefit plan designs and implementation of plans. Administers Battelle’s nonqualified executive benefit plans. Prepares executive benefit calculations. Manages aspects of assigned special projects with direction/oversight from manager.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Prepares and maintains employee benefits disclosures in compliance with applicable laws; including but not limited to legal plan documents, board resolutions and amendments, websites, summary plan descriptions, forms and employee communications.

  • Advises employer and plan fiduciaries of changes in applicable employee benefits laws, rules and regulations for the purpose of maintaining compliance and to foresee and protect against legal risks.

  • Manages projects related to employee benefit plans including vendor searches, plan implementations, policy revisions, etc.

  • Researches legal issues and questions and makes recommendations to Director, Benefits on the basis of findings.

  • Maintains compliance calendar for internally administered employee benefit plans and ensures requirements are timely met.

  • Manages regulatory audits and coordinates responses to inquiries from various regulatory agencies.

  • Acts as a resource person to the Pension and Savings committees by analyzing plan coverages and possible interpretations.

  • Liaisons with external benefit providers, actuaries, consultants, third party administrators, trustees, financial organizations, and regulatory authorities concerning aspects of benefit plan design, development, compliance, and finance issues.

  • Monitors the regulatory environment and identifies plan and procedural changes needed to remain in compliance; drafts plan amendments.

  • Provides input into the strategic development, design, and implementation of the Battelle benefits program. Evaluates benefit trends and recommends changes to the Battelle benefits program.

  • Supports project management activities with respect to assigned special projects such as development of bid specifications, review of proposals, and implementation of plan changes and new or enhanced benefit coverage with direction/oversight from manager, as necessary.

  • Performs compliance reviews of plan administration aspects for the pension, savings, and welfare plans.

  • Reviews contracts and agreements.

THE FOLLOWING REQUIREMENTS MUST BE MET TO BE CONSIDERED FOR THIS POSITION:

  • Requires a Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of eight years of ERISA plan compliance experience.

  • Familiar with a variety of ERISA law and accounting related concepts, practices and procedure.

  • Demonstrated excellent communication, presentation and interpersonal skills are required. Good judgment, flexibility, creativity and latitude are expected.

THE FOLLOWING IS DESIRED, BUT NOT REQUIRED TO BE CONSIDERED FOR THIS POSITION:

  • Advanced degree or a Juris Doctorate degree preferred.

  • Background in CAS/FAS accounting principles preferred.
