We are currently seeking a Systems Engineer- Rapid Development. This position located in Columbus, OH.
The Systems Engineer will work in the IUS Business Line, which is composed of researchers, scientists, engineers, designers, and technicians. IUS works across various Battelle Business Lines/Units to lead and/or support applied research and engineering projects in support of US Government and commercial clients. The candidate will work alongside other Battelle professionals to deliver capabilities in accordance with established cost, schedule, and technical metrics.
The ideal candidate has 10+ years of experience as a systems engineer with a reputation of being effective, technically competent, collaborative, responsive, and tenacious. The ideal candidate has expertise in systems integration and unmanned systems, including the development, testing, production, and sustainment of air, surface (land and maritime), sub-surface platforms and associated payloads (C4I, SIGINT, IMINT, TTL, and weapons). Team collaboration, leadership, and technical/non-technical problem solving are essential.
The candidate will report to the Programs Manager within the IUS Business Line. The candidate will support engineering projects that involve design, analysis, modeling, testing, fabrication, and troubleshooting of electronic, electrical, electromechanical, electromagnetic, thermal, fluid, computer, and network components, subsystems, and systems that will be used in arduous land and maritime environments. Travel will be required. Responsibilities include:
Ensure all systems/sub-systems/components work IAW established design requirements
Orchestrate conceptual design, detailed design, prototyping, fabrication, and testing activities
Orchestrate the activities and tasking of inter-disciplinary engineering staff
Orchestrate laboratory and/or field tests and/or experiments
Lead platform improvement and payload integration efforts
Encourage and orchestrate continuous improvement and technical problem solving
Provide leadership and technical acumen to project teams
Assist Program Manager in planning and executing project activities
Assist Program Manager in labor forecasting to ensure adequate project staffing
Generate/review technical documents, including requirements, specifications, and test plans/reports
THE FOLLOWING REQUIREMENTS MUST BE MET TO BE CONSIDERED FOR THIS POSITION:
Bachelor’s Degree in an engineering discipline from an ABET-accredited program and 8-10 years performing high- level systems engineering
Ability to translate qualitative customer requirements into quantitative, testable objectives
Ability to interface with various engineering disciplines
Familiarity with cradle-to-grave engineering processes, including: requirements, conceptual design, detailed design, prototyping, fabrication, and testing
Experience with environmental test equipment, procedures, and protocols
Ability to interface with commercial and US government end-users and program offices
Ability to generate proposals, specifications, plans, procedures, and technical reports
Ability to critically review technical documentation and provide constructive feedback
Ability to communicate clearly and concisely with technical and non-technical audiences
Responsible contributor who proactively follows-up on delegated tasks
Ability to work independently or as part of a larger team
Candidates must be able to support occasional extended-duration field testing (1-2 weeks) in land and/or maritime environments. Field work may involve exposure to extreme temperatures, conducting testing at night, working flexible schedules, and handling equipment that weighs 40-60 pounds.
Must be U.S. Citizen with ability to obtain and maintain government security clearance.
THE FOLLOWING IS DESIRED, BUT NOT REQUIRED TO BE CONSIDERED FOR THIS POSITION
10+ years performing high-level systems engineering
Master’s Degree in an engineering discipline from an ABET-accredited program
Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Systems Engineering
INCOSE-certified in Systems Engineering
DAWIA Level 2 Systems Engineering Certification
Familiarity with requirements management software such as Cradle
Familiarity with Configuration Control and Configuration Management principles and practices
Experience with FIPS certification processes
Experience with product development and manufacturing
Experience with engineering products to meet ISO 9001 standard
Experience with Risk Management tools and processes, including DFMEA and FTA
Experience with Root Cause Corrective Analysis (RCCA)
Experience with Reliability, Availability, Maintainability (RAM) methods and calculations
Experience with engineering analogies and modeling of engineering systems
Experience with rapid prototyping equipment and processes
Experience with EMI/EMC design/troubleshooting on unmanned systems
Experience with payload integration onto unmanned systems
Experience with data links, encryption, and encoding schemes on unmanned systems
Ability to develop CONOPs that synergize technologies with tactical applications
Experience with MATLAB and LabVIEW
Experience working with the Special Operations and Intelligence communities
U.S. Citizen with willingness/ability to possess DoD TS/SCI security clearance
