We are currently seeking Molecular Biologist(s) in various locations in Arizona for a nationally-deployed bio-surveillance program for federal and state/local public health and emergency response stakeholders.

Primary Function

This position will be responsible for performing routine molecular testing to rapidly detect and identify potential bacterial and viral threat agents from environmental samples according to standard processes and procedures

Major Responsibilities

  • Attend initial training, demonstrate, and maintain competence in specified technical area through successful completion of quality control samples and proficiency tests

  • Ensure all procedures are completed according to standard procedures, adhering to quality, safety, and security regulations and requirements including the Laboratory Quality Assurance Program Plan (QAPP)

  • Perform microbiological and molecular analytical techniques, including DNA extraction and real-time polymerase chain reaction, to detect and identify multiple pathogenic organisms

  • Demonstrate ability to communicate results in oral and written reports, assist senior scientists with troubleshooting and reporting, as required

  • Preserve chain of custody during sample receipt, storage, and processing

  • Safely operate equipment and perform maintenance duties including calibrations and adjustments

  • Testing is performed 24/7/365, emergency response availability, rotating weekends, and some holidays are required

Position Requirements

THE FOLLOWING REQUIREMENTS MUST BE MET TO BE CONSIDERED FOR THIS POSITION:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university in molecular biology, microbiology, or related course work in the biological sciences with at least one year of laboratory bench experience utilizing PCR, aseptic techniques, and biological assays.

  • Alternatively, at least four (4) years of equivalent biological laboratory bench experience is acceptable in lieu of degree.

  • Some laboratory sites require personnel working in the facility to have Select Agent Registration, and/or American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) certification.

  • U.S. Citizenship or Permanent Resident Card (USCIS I-551).

  • Ability to pass background investigation to meet (and maintain) eligibility for access to sensitive information.

THE FOLLOWING IS DESIRED, BUT NOT REQUIRED TO BE CONSIDERED FOR THIS POSITION:

  • Experience working in a Biosafety Level (BSL) 2 and/or 3 Laboratory.
