We are currently seeking an HVAC Maintenance Mechanic/Boiler Plant Operator. This position is in Columbus, Ohio. The candidate will provide shift coverage for 1st Shift Monday - Friday (12:00 noon - 8:00 pm). May require overtime/additional shifts as needed.
The HVAC Maintenance Mechanic/Boiler Plant Operator will support our Facilities Operations team at Battelle’s King Avenue campus. This campus supports Battelle’s contract research laboratories and operations as well as corporate functions.
Performs preventive/predictive maintenance, repairs, and adjustments on HVAC equipment including boiler plant equipment to ensure the safety and reliability of critical mechanical systems in a laboratory environment. Responds to, and assists, in performing emergency repairs on HVAC equipment and controls
Maintains an adequate inventory of spare parts to keep systems running smoothly with minimum downtime; monitors system performance and demand to ensure compliance with safety and energy savings guidelines
Follows recognized procedures and techniques and applies knowledge of regulatory codes and requirements, as well as knowledge of Battelle systems to accomplish job assignments
Coordinates with other facility’s staff and contractor’s staff to accomplish work on new and renovated labs, and ensures compliance with applicable Battelle guidelines as well as national, state, and local regulations and requirements
Monitors equipment to ensure operation is within specified parameters, especially to meet the requirements of conducting project work for clients; adjusts and repairs as necessary; conducts necessary tests and inspects system equipment and components to detect actual and potential mechanical problems that would affect project work, and takes corrective action
Develops and implements an effective preventive maintenance program using the site’s computerized maintenance management system (CMMS)
Operates and interacts with Building Automation System (BAS) for operation, trend analysis, and to spot check data for validity
THE FOLLOWING REQUIREMENTS MUST BE MET TO BE CONSIDERED FOR THIS POSITION:
Must possess a High School diploma with 5 years of HVAC/mechanical-related experience and/or boiler plant operation and maintenance experience OR an Associate degree in a related field with 2 years of experience
Must have demonstrated knowledge of Commercial heating, ventilating, air conditioning, and refrigeration systems, regulatory codes and requirements, as well as related pneumatic and electrical control systems
Must have thorough Apprentice level knowledge and skill in control systems, mechanical maintenance and repair procedures, installation, and fabrication techniques typical in the trade
Must have experience with software commonly used for tracking and reporting system status in BAS and CMMS systems
Must be willing to perform self-development activities sufficient to maintain craft specialty skills and certifications, and can obtain and maintain Asbestos awareness training and certification; universal refrigerant certifications; licenses to operate a forklift, overhead crane, aerial lifts and power tools; radiation safety training; and others as required
Must be a US Citizen.
Must be willing and able to obtain and maintain a Secret Clearance
Must be willing to work in a biosafety level 2 (BSL2) and/or 3 (BSL3) environment and able to wear the appropriate protective equipment.
Must be willing to be immunized with licensed and FDA approved vaccines and medications recommended for persons at risk to occupational exposure of biological agents.
Must be willing and able to work on-call on a rotational basis and respond to emergency calls during non-business hours. May be required to work overtime for activities related to HVAC, shutdowns, repairs, and emergency situations
Must be able to use communication device such as a pager, cellular phone, or two-way radio during and after normal business hours, including weekends
Must have the knowledge of tools, materials, procedures, hazards of the trade, and possess the physical ability to perform manual labor, including work outdoors in inclement weather
Requires the physical ability to perform medium difficulty work, including lifting, carrying, pushing and pulling work materials and tools; ability to climb ladders, maintain balance, stoop, kneel and crouch to gain access to equipment components; ability to read meters and use tool accessories; acuity of vision for close work; depth of perception, field of vision, and color vision
Must be familiar with Microsoft Office Word, Excel, and Outlook.
Must be self-motivated and can be productive with little or no direct supervision
Must have excellent oral and written communication skills, good customer service skills, and ability to follow through and carry out assignments
THE FOLLOWING IS DESIRED, BUT NOT REQUIRED TO BE CONSIDERED FOR THIS POSITION:
Third Class Stationary Engineer License is highly desirable.
A mechanical contractor's license and/or refrigeration certification is desirable.
Knowledge of Honeywell and Siemens building automation systems is a plus.
